Retired Generals Back Aquino

Retired military generals who helped in the ouster of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos threw their support behind Sen Noynoy AQUINO. Claiming they speak for a legion of active and retired military personnel instrumental in the 1986 revolution, they said in a manifesto: “We believe that Senator Noynoy has the strength of character, the moral uprightness and the selfless love for the Filipino people to lead and unite all Filipinos in this crucial struggle for survival against the forces of evil and return the dignity and honor to the public service.”

Whom Will Arroyo Cheat For?

Poll watchdog Kontra sa Daya 2010 warned that judging from Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s track record, she will cheat in the May election, and not necessarily for her public candidate, Gilbert Teodoro. They said there is reasonable basis to presume she would cheat for Manny Villar, who is widely believed to be her “secret candidate.” The group, convened by clergy, teachers, and students, among others, will also be monitoring COMELEC, and warns that the public should brace itself for possible civil disobedience in the upcoming polls.

About P2 billion has already been spent in the last three months on political ads by presidential candidates for the May 10 elections, approximately half of it spent by Manny Villar, with his TV ad time double that of the second biggest spender, administration bet Gilbert Teodoro. That places Villar as 14th among top 20 advertisers in the last quarter of 2009 alone. In comparison to Villar’s P1 billion, Sen Noynoy AQUINO spent less than P300 million in three months.

Farmers Decry Delay in Landgrabbing Case vs Villar

Farmers from Norzagaray, Bulacan have decried the delay in the plunder case against Manny Villar that accuse the presidential aspirant of “techinal landgrabbing.” The case involves Mr and Mrs Villar’s companies that under “dubious titles” mortgaged the farmers’ lands and failed to pay loans. The graft and plunder case was filed in 2008. Lawyers have also filed a related criminal case against Villar’s wife Cynthia, a congresswoman, for violation of Article 316, or other forms of swindling.

Security Threat on ARMM Ballots

Nearly two million ballots in ARMM were printed without the security markings of the National Printing Office (NPO), meaning it is possible that those ballots will not have the appropriate security features required for the May 10 automated polls. Maguindanao, considered ground zero in the Hello Garci electoral fraud, is located in ARMM.
